Host of next year’s CAF U-17 Nations Cup, Tanzania is planning to use the Africa Youth Cup in Cape Verde to round up her build up for the competition.
Hint to this effect was dropped early this week by organizers of the Cape Verde tournament, who disclosed that Tanzania may be sending her U-16 national team comprising some potential players in the U-17 to feature in the Africa Youth Cup.
Newman Ebiegberi of Serahanasports said Tanzania’s interest in the Africa Youth Cup was affirmed when the Taifa Stars came to Praia to play Cape Verde in the AFCON 2019 qualifiers.
“The Tanzania minister of Sports development, Dr Yusuph Singo Omari had after our meeting in Praia said his country would use the Africa Youth Cup as final preparations for the CAF U-17 Nations Cup which Tanzania is hosting next summer. We are excited with the interest coming from Tanzania to participate in the tournament with their junior national team,” Newman said.
Newman said he is impressed with the level of interest being shown by teams from different parts of world ahead of the maiden edition of the Africa Youth Cup.
“As we speak, we have confirmation from teams in Africa, Europe and Latin America. Everything points to us having an amazing and memorable tournament next year in Cape Verde,” Newman said.
It would be noted that the president of Cape Verde FA, Mario Semedo had last week extended special invitation to CAF first Vice President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick to be part of the tournament which is billed to run from April 19-27.
