Anxiety as Supreme Court rules on Imo

Palpable tension has gripped supporters and well wishers of both the Imo state governor Hope Uzodinma and ousted governor Emeka Ihedioha as the Supreme Court in Abuja is set to hear the rule on the application brought before it by Ihedioha.

A seven-man panel of the apex court led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, said the court’s ruling on the application filed by Ihedioha would be delivered at 3pm on Tuesday.

The CJN led the panel when the court in its judgment delivered on January 14, 2020, sacked Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party as the governor and declared Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress as the true winner of March 9, 2020, governorship election in Imo State.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who delivered the lead judgment, declared Uzodinma as the winner of the election after restoring the results of the poll allegedly excluded from the final results, which gave Ihedioha victory.
