Enyimba players have made a passionate appeal to Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu to ensure the team returns to her Aba fortress before the re commencement of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage after the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Enyimba it would be noted, midweek lost 3-0 to CARRA F C of Congo in her second match of the group stage in Brazzaville.
The players who spoke on their return home at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport said they would love to play their remaining home games at the Enyimba Stadium insisting that playing ‘away’ at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar is not the best for the team.
They were however quick in commending Calabar fans for treating them like a Garden City based team.
“Calabar fans have been good to us. We are very much at home in the Garden City, but as you know the atmosphere would be different when we play at Aba before our fans. It is always a full house when we play in Aba and with a full house of fans we would be at our best. The pitch in Calabar is also a factor. The turf is not in good shape, so we struggle to win there,” defence strongman, Ifeanyi Anaemena said.
Enyimba would July 17 play host to Ivorian side Williamsville when action re starts in the competition after the World Cup.
Enyimba Stadium Aba has in the last three years been undergoing reconstruction. However, the materials needed to complete the job has been imported by the contractor handling the job, Monimichelle.
The firm, we gathered, would lay the geo technology turf once she is mobilized to return to site by the Abia State government.
