World soccer governing body FIFA has disclosed that the Russia 2018 International Broadcast Centre (IBC) would open June 9.
FIFA in a release today said the official opening would be combined with a tour of the Centre by accredited journalists and a demonstration of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) facilities.
FIFA’s release stated in part: “FIFA is pleased to invite the accredited members of the media at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ to the official opening of the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) on Saturday, 9 June. The event will be combined with a tour of the IBC and a demonstration of the central video assistant refereeing (VAR) facilities.”
The event will begin at 10:30 with the official opening ceremony attended by representatives of FIFA, the LOC and the Host City of Moscow.
Following the opening ceremony, attending media will be able to ask questions to FIFA’s broadcasting experts during a guided tour of the IBC facilities by FIFA TV Services.
The tour will conclude with a guided demonstration of the video operation room (VOR), where Roberto Rosetti and Carlos Velasco of FIFA Refereeing as well as Johannes Holzmüller and the Football Technology Innovation team will be available for questions. The VOR will be the centre of VAR operations during the 2018 FIFA World Cup™.
