There are indications that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are currently at the Abuja residence of Ita Ekpeyong, former Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
It was gathered that officials of the anti-graft agency got to Ekpeyong’s residence on Thursday morning.
The raid comes 48 hours after the sack of Lawal Daura as Director-General of DSS.
Daura had allegedly foiled an attempt by EFCC to search Ekpeyong’s residence in 2017. Both agencies confronted each other until the commission backed down.
EFCC had invited Ekpeyong over his alleged involvement in the arms scam said to have been coordinated by Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA) but he did not honour the invitation.
Ekpeyong was in charge of the secret police between 2010 and 2015 when former President Goodluck Jonathan was in charge of the country.
He resigned five weeks into the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari, who was reportedly unimpressed with the role the agency played in the buildup to the 2015 election.
Buhari had appointed Daura to replace Ekpeyong.
