Captain of the nation’s U 20 national team, the Flying Eagles, Iko Uwem Udor is on cloud nine over Nigeria’s qualification for Niger 2019 African Nations Cup.
Udor who is still basking in the euphoria of their 5-0 bashing of Mauritania at the Agege soccer temple was full of praise for the team’s technical crew led by Paul Aigbogun and the Pinnick Amaju led NFF board, even as he assured that they would do the country proud early next year in neighbouring Niger Republic.
In his words: “After the draw away our coaches fine tuned strategies for the return leg. We played to their instructions and got a perfect result. We didn’t only qualify but did so in grand style. We wanted our qualification to be in grand style the way Eagles did it during the Russia 2018 qualifiers. ”
Continuing Udor said: “Our focus is now on the competition proper and we are looking forward to having a good tournament and given the way the NFF has been preparing teams for major tournaments we are going to do well in Niger. We know the way the NFF treated the Eagles in Russia and the perfect way the Amaju board prepared the team. We are looking forward to that and our prayers is that nothing truncates our dream. ”
Udor emphasized that he had before now not spoken to the media on the match dismissing a report that claimed he attributed their victory to match bonus and allowances.
“I didn’t grant any interview where I spoke about money. I m looking at the bigger picture and the task ahead. This is not the time to talk or focus on money,” Udor said.
Udor who plies his trade with Enyimba FC was quick to add that he is also happy with his club’s home victory in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Enyimba last week secured a 1-0 victory over Ivorian side to go top of their group.
