High court confirms jail term for German art dealer

A Federal Court of Justice of Germany on Wednesday sentenced a German art dealer to six-year jail term for defrauding one of his influential clients.
The convict, Helge Achenbach, was sentenced for charging secret markups on art sales, in violation of contracts.
Lower court judges estimated that the overcharges on purchases of art and vintage cars amounted to nearly 21 million dollars for one client.
“That means the judgment takes effect from 2015 when my client have been charged to the court,” Achenbach’s attorney, Thomas Elsner said.
He said that the convict had prepared himself for his jail term saying “he is now looking to the future’’.
Achenbach, 64, has been in detention since 2014. (dpa/NAN)
