How state governors got N1b for COVID-19

Governors of the 36 states of the federation allegedly received N1billion each from the Federal Government to cushion the effects of the dread Coronavirus pandemic.
The Governors were alleged to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Bank to receive a sum of N1.1billion for the same purpose, the Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello has revealed.
Governor Yahaya Bello made this revelation on Tuesday while reacting to questions on Channels Television’s programme Sunrise Daily.
According to Gov Bello, all the state governors have since received the N1billion from the Federal Government.
However, Yahaya Bello said he was the only state governor who refused to sign an MoU with the World Bank.
Asked why he received the COVID-19 fund from the Federal Government despite not believing in the virus, Bello said, “even though we did not have COVID-19 in Kogi State, we are equally affected; because our economy was equally affected and Federal Government released that fund to assist every state and we cannot reject it.”
He stated that he refused to sign the World Bank MoU because it was a one-sided agreement or document.
The Kogi State Governor, also said that the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force dampened the spirits of police officers across the country.
He said many Nigerians have wondered why rampaging hoodlums are having a field day destroying lives and properties in the country despite the presence of security operatives.
There have been reports of hoodlums overpowering police officers to burn down police stations and other infrastructure they guard.
The IGP had scrapped the special police unit in the wake of the #EndSARS protests against the brutality and extrajudicial killings.
Adamu had also announced a replacement for the police unit known as the Special Weapons and Tactics unit.
