It was another sad day at the popular Ojuelegba bridge in Lagos as a truck fully laddened with wood fell off the bridge killing three persons and wounding two others
The truck it was learnt was conveying plywoods before skidding off the bridge and falling on three commercial buses and a Toyota Camry at Ojuelegba.
Head of the emergençy unit, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said those wounded are presently taking treatment in the hospital.
He disclosed that a flatbed truck ladden with plywood and boards swerved and tilted atop the Ojuelegba bridge, falling on four vehicles.
He attributed the cause of the accident to overloading.
“unfortunately, three persons died, while two sustained injuries and are responding to treatment. ”
adding that the combined efforts of emergency responders, Nigerian police, LRT, LASAMBUS, LASTMA, Lagis State Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps were immediately mobilized to the scene to speed up recovery process.
“The wooden sheets on the bridge have being recovered and stacked up by the LRT and other stakeholders for ease of evacuation off the bridge. Recovery operation is still ongoing,” he said.
Sadly, on September 2,2015, a similar accident claimed the lives of not less than three persons after an unlatched container fell of a flatbed. It crushed an SUV .
The accident is still a subject of litigation with family members of the three deceased are seeking a N10 – billion compensation.
