It will be a battle of the titans in Edo as two strong contenders for the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship ticket are squaring up for a big battle that will decide the fate of the party in the state.
Already Pastor Ize-Iyamu who recently joined the party, but has the baking of the National Chairman of the party has emerged consensus aspirant and he is ready to square up with incumbent governor of the state Godwin Obaseki for APC governorship primaries
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu emerged as consensus governorship aspirant of a faction of the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He was said to have come tops after a screening of a Committee set up for the selection exercise.
Other aspirants who were screened along with Ize-Iyamu are former deputy governor of the state, Dr. Pius Odubu, Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, Gen. Charles Airhiavbere, Hon. E.J Agbonyima, Saturday Uwulekhue and Prof. Ebegue Amadasun, while Solomon Edebiri was said to have voluntarily withdrew his aspiration.
From the development and baring any last minute twist, it is now clear that Pastor Ize-Iyamu and incumbent governor Godwin Obaseki who earlier vied for the governorship in 2016, are now to square up for the APC governorship ticket on June 22.
It was learnt that all the aspirants in the contest have contributed three million naira each to buy APC’s N22.5 million Nomination and Expression Interest Form for Pastor Ize-Iyamu.
Confirming Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s emergence as the consensus aspirant yesterday, Lawrence Okah, state Secretary of the party, said “We are going with him to pick the form now.
“There is harmony in the family. We just have one common enemy, Obaseki should go. That’s all”.
