As part of measures to ensure that youths in Owan West Local Government Area are empowered, the Executive Chairman,Hon. Frank Ilaboya, early this week held a Youth Empowerment Summit in collaboration with Energy Group.
The summit which was interactive was one the council boss used to reassure the youths of the Local Government of his determination to see them empowered, since white collar jobs are not forthcoming. The summit held at two locations: Ora and Iuleha Zones.
The Ora Zone held at Council Hall, Sabongidda-Ora, while Iuleha Zone held at Town Hall, Uzebba. The crowd that attended the Youth Empowerment Summit marked the highest youth gathering in the history of the Local Government.
The youths numbering over two thousand from the Local Government, expressed joy over the pleasant development, and assured the Council Chairman of their readiness to key into the initiative in a bid to make them self reliant.
Hon. Ilaboya, while addressing the youths charged them to ensure they pick an area of skill where they hope to receive training, as the Council remains committed to not only empowering them in skill acquisition, but to also assist them in seeing that they get established after their training.
Hon. Ilaboya disclosed to the youths his plans to train twenty-two graduates in the Local Government, where two beneficiaries per Ward will be sponsored with effect from September this year.
Meanwhile, one of the resource persons, who spoke on Youths and Social Vices, Barr. Victor Ojeikere, charged the youths to shun cultism and focus on areas that will improve their lives productively.
He described cultism as one of the greatest destroyers of destinies and urged those who are entangled in it to cry out to the appropriate authorities in a bid to secure their freedom.
It is recalled that the Council Chairman had last month set up a Committee made up of seven brilliant youths to find ways to positively engage and empower Owan West youths. The report they submitted is already yielding dividends with the first ever Youth Empowerment summit of the local government.
