Police arrest alleged killers of navy officer in Ebonyi

Police personnel from Zone 6, Calabar Cross River state have arrested the alleged killers of a naval officer, Naval Sub Lt.David Igbashal,who was reportedly abducted and killed at Umuoguduakpu Ngbo in Ohaukwu local government area of the state in February this year.

A statement from the spokesman of the force in the state, Nelson Okpabi, disclosed that the deceased was kidnapped on 22 February 2020 while on his way to Makurdi in Benue State to make arrangements for his wedding.

Okpabi in the statement said the zone’s anti corruption/X-Squad team led by SP Emmanuel Ukwenya who arrested the suspects also recovered the remains of the deceased naval officer at a bush in Umuoguakpu Ngbo.

The statement read: ” The Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar yesterday 18 April, 2020 recorded a major break-through in arresting the killers of Naval Sub Lt. David Igbashal who was abducted on 22 February, 2020 while on his way to Makurdi in Benue State to make arrangements for his wedding.

“The SP Emmanuel Ukwenya led team of the Zonal Anti-Corruption/X-Squad set up by AIG Zaki M. Ahmed, yesterday recovered the remains of the slain Sub Lt. at Omuogodu Akpu in Ngbo LGA of Ebonyi State, a waring Community with neighbouring Agila village in Benue State.

” The team which acted on a credible information arrested five suspects in connection with the crime and they confessed to the commission of the heinous crime. They also took the detectives to the site where the murdered officer was buried. Meanwhile, investigation is in top gear and the suspects would be arraigned accordingly.

“The AIG in-charge of Zone 6 Headquarters Calabar, Zaki M Ahmed is using this opportunity to condole with the Nigerian Navy for the Lost of the young officer; while calling on members of the public to obey government/NCDC directives and stay safe. He also assured them of adequate security in this trying times and urged them to report suspected person(s)/ incidents to the police without hesitation”
