The Lagos state command of the Nigeria Police Force has released names and photographs of its men involved in the killing of a football fan identified as Kolade Johnson.
A stray bullet had allegedly hit Kolade during a raid by the anti-cultism unit of the command at Onipetesi, Lagos-Abeokuta road on Sunday.
The incident had sparked a nationwide outrage, with the police authorities promising Nigerians that the killers would be brought to book.
When Zubairu Muazu, the state commissioner of police, led a condolence visit to the family of the deceased earlier on Tuesday, he spoke of the commitment of the police to bring the suspects to book.
Shortly after, the police unveiled the identities of the officers arrested in connection with the incident.
“The men suspected to have carried out the shooting of Kolade Johnson have been apprehended and subjected to internal disciplinary procedures. The CP has revealed their names as (1) Insp Ogunyemi Olalekan and (2) Sgt Godwin Orji attached to Anti Cultism Squad,” the police said in a tweet.
