Russia 2018: Eagles’ Keepers “ll prove critics wrong-Ikpechukwu

By George Aluo

Former NITEL Vasco of Enugu team manager, Diewatt Ikpechukwu has declared that Super Eagles goalkeepers would end up proving their critics wrong during the Russia 2018 World Cup campaign.

Rohr had last week named the quartet of Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Francis Uzoho, Dele Ajiboye and Daniel Akpeyi as the shot stoppers in his Russia bound 30-man provisional list.

Many Nigerian soccer pundits have continued to express worries over the Eagles goalkeeping department insisting that the four goalkeepers are not “world class.”

Ikpechukwu in a telephone chat with NewsReporters.ng from his Enugu base said he sees a situation where the Keepers would turn out to be Nigeria’s World Cup heroes.

“The general consensus is that we are taking goalkeeping rookies to Russia. But I see a situation where the Keepers would rise to the occasion and prove their critics wrong.During the qualifiers, Ezenwa rose to the occasion against Cameroon home and away and he is by my own assessment not a bad goalkeeper. Any of the keepers Rohr decides to use may end up surprising everybody,” Ikpechukwu said.

The soccer buff who is also a Nollywood star stressed that with determination, Eagles would be able to set a new World Cup record in Russia.

“What our players need do is to approach every game with determination. Once they do that, they would emerge from their group and go all the way in the tournament,” Ikpechukwu said.

The Eagles would next week Monday face DR Congo in an international friendly at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt. They would thereafter jet out of the country for London where they would face England in another top friendly before hitting Russia.
