A suspected female kidnapper identified as Adewunmi was beaten to a pulp and stripped naked in Ogbomoso, Oyo State for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old boy at the premises of a mosque and hid him under her hijab.
It was alleged that the woman come from Ilorin in Kwara State and dressed like an ideal Muslim woman to perpetrate the crime.
Witnesses said she went to a mosque in Oja-Igbo area of Ogbomoso with the intention of stealing the child from the praying house.
The Baale of Isale Ora, Ogbomoso, Chief Lasisi Ayinka, said: “The woman claimed she came from Ilorin when we gave her the beating of her life. If she is not beaten again in her life, the one we gave her was enough. How could she disguise and kidnap a minor in the mosque premises?”
He stated further that the woman came to the premises of the mosque and stayed around the place till after prayers, adding: “she allowed many people that came for prayers in the mosque to leave. Then, she accosted two children that were coming behind. The children are about for years and seven years.
“She asked the gave N100 to the elder child to buy corn of N50 for her. The child went to buy the corn. The came back almost immediately and told her that the corn seller did not smaller denomination to balance her, so he did not buy the corn.
“Then, the woman asked the child to go back and buy N100 corn. Before the child came back, the woman had carried the younger child, hopped a waiting motorcycle, and hid him under her hijab.
“The elder child came back and discovered that the woman had abducted his younger brother. He raised the alarm, telling people that the bike went towards Isale Ora. The people around pursued the woman with motorcycles and caught up with her in a fuel station where the motorcyclist was fuelling the bike, apparently because the petrol in the bike was not much.
“I was not there, but I was told that the mob descended on her and beat her till she became a vegetable. The mob also tore her clothes while beating her and in the process, stripped her naked.
“I went to the police station. I saw the woman and she begged for forgiveness. Also, she claimed that she was one of the three kidnappers that came to the Mosque, popularly called ‘Moshalashi Jimoh’ at Oja-Igbo. People went there, but the other two kidnappers had escaped.
An eyewitness, Mr. Kamilu Ayinla, also told Daily Sun that the mob would have killed the woman, but for the timely intervention of the police that came to the scene, rescued the woman and took her away from the scene to Owode police station in Ogbomoso, last week Friday.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Oyo State command, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident, saying the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Samuel Adegbuyi, has launched investigation into the case.
