Residents of Maiduguri in the northern Nigerian state of Borno has reported a tensed situation in the state capital following a renewed onslaught by some element of the Boko Haram insurgents.
A resident of Addawari village, Jiddari-Polo area, told said that the insurgents have been shooting since 5:30pm on Wednesday.
“We have been indoors for the past two hours. Sounds of gunshot every where. We can’t even go out to break our fast,” the resident said.
The level of casualty is yet to be ascertained.
Security agencies have been repelling the activities of the insurgents, urging resident to keep safe in their residences. However, some residents have been on the run, seeking safety in nearby locations.
Sani Usman, spokesman of the Nigerian Army, has asked residents to keep calm, as the army repels the insurgents.
