Why Kalu got a special title from Buhari’s hometown

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday held a closed-door deliberation with the former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, Plateau Governor, Solomon Lalong, and Communication Minister, Adebayo Shittu at his Daura country home.

The meeting was convened shortly after Orji Kalu was conferred with a chieftaincy title of “Danbaiwan Hausa ” by the Emir of Daura, Dr. Farouq Umar Farouq.

Both Plateau Lalong and Shittu were among the dignitaries who graced the enthronement ceremony of Kalu at the Emir’s palace.

The trio, shortly after the event, left for President Buhari’s residence.

Shittu, speaking to journalists after the meeting, said he was at the President’s residence to “pay obeisance”.

The minister said: “We were here to pay obeisance. You know the President recently returned from a medical trip abroad.

“The President is not only fit to trek 800 metres as reported by the media, the President is fit mentally and physically to continue to pilot the affairs of our great country.”

Shittu said he attended Kalu’s event to reciprocate his kindness and liberal attitude to all Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion.

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq, had conferred the traditional title of ‘’Danbaiwan-Hausa’’ on the former governor of Abia, Orji Kalu in recognition of his efforts toward the development of Abia and Nigeria at large.

Faruq stated this on Wednesday in his palace in Daura, when he conferred the title on the former governor.

The monarch, who described Kalu as peace promoter, noted that the title has made him the representative of the Hausa in the entire Ibo land in the country.

‘’We appreciate your contributions to the business sector in Nigeria and your efforts in peace building for the good of community.

‘’We also appreciate the love you have for our son; I urge you to continue your campaigns for President Muhammadu Buhari,’’ he said.

The Emir said that throughout the Hausa land, it is only the Daura Emirate that can confer that title to anybody, which means a ‘’Gifted son of Hausa Kingdom.’’

Responding, Kalu commended the Emir for the title, and assured the monarch that he would continue to do more for the development and unity of the country.

In his goodwill message at the occasion, the Minister for Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, described Kalu as a bridge-builder, who has consistently endeared himself into the hearts of the people and supporters of Mr President.

‘’For somebody, who has taken such initiatives, I think he deserved supports and collaborations.

‘’What has happened today will encourage him to do more toward Nigeria’s unity and integration,’’ he said.

Kalu after the turban proceeded to the residence of President Muhammadu Buhari where he held a closed-door meeting with the President.
