Enyimba coach, Usman Abdalla says solid preparation is key to getting past their quarterfinals opponent, Rayon Sports in the CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
CAF had Monday night in Cairo paired The People’s Elephants against the Rwandan side in the knock stage of the competition, while CARA of Congo who qualified alongside Enyimba in the group are to face top Moroccan side RAJA.
Abdalla who spoke exclusively to NewsReporters.ng moments after the draw said he is really not bothered by who comes next in the race but by the kind of preparation ahead of the tie.
“For me, I don’t really care who we are meeting. If you want to be the champion, you must be ready to face any opposition. That is the mentality I m putting into the boys. The important thing is to prepare well, work on our weaknesses and get better as a team ahead of the quarterfinals. The little worry is that I don’t know much about Rayon Sports. I have not seen them play, neither do I have any information on the team. We are going to see how we work on that before the game because knowing what to expect from your opponent helps you to map out your strategy. We respect every team still in the race because to have come this far shows that the team is solid on current form,” Abdalla said.
The coach was quick to add that he has since after the home victory over CARA been working round the clock insisting that there is nothing to celebrate yet until the ultimate goal of lifting the trophy is achieved.
“Yes, it was good winning on the very first day the club played at home in three years, but we have not allowed ourselves to be carried away. The task ahead is bigger and we are concentrating on it. There are a few flaws we are correcting ahead of the quarter final match and we hope to get things right, especially with the kind of massive home support we now enjoy.”
