Africa’s poor start in the on going Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup continued Monday night in Volgograd as hard fighting Tunisia failed to secure a point against England.
The Carthage Eagles held on until one minute into stoppage time when Harry Kane struck to give England a deserved 2-1 victory.
England took the lead in the 11th minute courtesy of Harry Kane’s effort, only for Tunisia to level up via a 35th minute penalty converted by Ferjani Sassi.
Tunisia had after the equalizer opted to defend until the end of the first half.
They were almost running away with a draw only for Kane to strike again in the 91st minute.
It would be noted that Egypt, Nigeria and Morocco had before Monday night’s game failed to win. Though Tunisia lost, they however succeeded in scoring a goal, unlike Egypt, Morocco and Nigeria that fired blank in defeat.
Africa’s fifth representative, Senegal would on Tuesday face Poland in Saint Petersburg in a game the Teranga Lions must win to salvage Africa’s pride.
Africa’s Russia 2018 World Cup scorecard so far:
Egypt 0 Uruguay 1
Morocco 0 Iran 1
Nigeria 0 Croatia 2
Tunisia 1 England 2
