Battle of Sfax: Eagles victory, very sweet -Akinwumi

By George Aluo
“This is a very sweet victory. I am happy with the performance and the three points. Going top of the group for the first time in the campaign is a delight, and we intend to remain there.”Those were the words of NFF first Vice President, Seyi Akinwumi last night after Super Eagles beat Libya 3-2 in Sfax, Tunisia to go top of Group E in the AFCON 2019 qualifiers.
The encounter was one in which the Eagles took charge early with two quick strikes by Odion Ighalo and skipper Ahmed Musa.
Ighalo who scored a hat-trick in Uyo last Saturday was again the hero of the night as he scored a brace to the delight of the few traveling Nigerian fans in the stadium.
Victory took Nigeria to nine points after four matches, one above South Africa’s Bafana Bafana who drew 0-0 with Seychelles in Mahe Island earlier in the day. Libya have four points while Seychelles have only one.
Next up for the Super Eagles is a potentially –explosive duel with Bafana Bafana in a top-of-the-table clash at Johannesburg’s Soccer City on 17th November.
