CAF Confederation Cup: Enyimba delays return to Aba

  • To host Williamsville in Port Harcourt

By George Aluo

Enyimba FC has opted to play her next CAF Confederation Cup home game next week at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, even as contractors put finishing touches to her Aba fortress.

Club chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu disclosed yesterday that the People’s Elephants as the club is fondly called would host Ivorian side Williamsville at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium when action returns in the CAF Confederation Cup next week.

“We are playing in Port Harcourt. A few things still need to be put in place before we return to our Aba home. Work is still going on there. The pitch is ready but our governor has decided to completely turn around the arena. We are happy that we would be returning to a stadium that is Modern in every sense of the word,” Anyansi said.

We further gathered that African football governing body,CAF, would also need to come on inspection to Aba before giving Enyimba approval to use the stadium. Enyimba it would be noted had before now been prosecuting her domestic and international matches at the UJ Essuene Stadium in Calabar, a stadium which CAF has since given red card no thanks to its poor playing surface.

The Chief Executive Officer of the firm handling the Enyimba pitch, Monimichelle, Ebi Egbe, said the pitch is ready and that the team would after the game against Williamsville train on the turf.

“That Enyimba won’t play at home next week is understandable because the government is doing a whole lot of work on the arena. But the boys can start training there after their home game against Williamsville and we are sure they will get Caf’s nod to play there subsequently,” Egbe said.
