The proposed maiden edition of African youth soccer tourney to be staged in Cape Verde is beginning to enjoy the backing of several ex internationals from the continent.
Hint to this effect was dropped recently by organizers of the tournament which is being patterned after other big international youth soccer tourneys staged annually in Europe and South America.
Spokesman of the organisers, Godson Abba Ekadi told NewsReporters.ng that at the appropriate time, possibly immediately after the Russia 2018 Mundial Serahanasports would reel out the names of the ex internationals who have identified with the event.
“One thing I can confirm to you is that things are looking up for the tournament. Some African big names who played the game at the highest level are backing the tournament. We will unfold the package, possibly after the World Cup. Let’s enjoy the World Cup and after that we begin to talk about the tournament which we hope to use to discover the stars who would in the near future be doing Africa proud.”
Cape Verde 2019 would be Africa’s first youth soccer tournament for football academies in the continent. The tournament is billed to run from April 19-27 in the city of Praia.
According to the organizers, Serahanasports, the event is Africa’s response to similar global summer youth soccer competitions such as Ibercup, Copa Catalunya, Paris World Games, Gothia Cup, Norway Cup, Dana Cup and Brazil Cup.
