Imo State Governor, South East Nigeria, Rochas Okorocha, said that there will not be automatic ticket for President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019 presidential election.
He said though it was Buhari’s constitutional right to seek the mandate of the party for his re-election, all processes for the nomination of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidates in all categories of position must pass through democratic process and must be transparent.
He said Buhari is fit to seek re-election, describing him as a young man who is looking healthier and stronger and that it could be taken for granted that he was never ill.
Okorocha while answering questions from State House Correspondents after visiting the president in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said while the constitution allows the president to seek a re-election, the APC on the other hand does not allow imposition of candidates but believes in adherence to democratic process.
The Imo governor said he had opted to visit the president to discuss political issues affecting the South-east with him as well as the welfare and politics of APC in the region with a view to convincing the people of the region to understand the politics of APC.
According to him, it is very paramount for the president to improve his relations with the South-east by showing his physical presence in the region, disclosing that the president was happy about the suggestion as he will visit Anambra State very soon.
He also said the APC was well placed in the political sphere of the South-east with more people defecting to the party from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the region.
