Abdulwaheed Odusile, the National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), on Wednesday inaugurated Credentials Committee to conduct election for the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).
Odusile disclosed that NAWOJ would elect its new national officers in May in Benin, the Edo capital, to be conducted by the committee.
Odusile charged the members of the committee to be impartial and to ensure it conducted a free, transparent and credible electoral process.
According to him, the NUJ has continued to set the standard in the conduct of elections in this country, we do not expect anything less from this committee.
“I urge you to be impartial, ensure a free, transparent and credible process as anything less will be unacceptable,” Odusile said.
The chairman of the committee, Alhaji Alhassan Yahya, who released the timetable for the election, said the exercise would between May 24 and May 27.
He said that delegates were expected to arrive Benin City on May 24, adding that the period for the sales and submission of forms had been scheduled for between April 17 and April 28.
He noted that while screening of aspirants, holds on between May 3 and May 4; claims and objections would hold between May 5 and May 9, with the final list expected to be released on May 12.
Yahya, therefore, advised all the chairpersons and secretaries of state chapters of the NAWOJ to submit signed delegate lists to the commitee.
He appealed to all aspirants to run campaigns devoid of hate speech and violence. (NAN)
