Otubanjo admits tough Europa test against Besiktas

Former youth international Yusuf Otubanjo has described this week’s Europa League Third Round Qualification match between his Austrian club Linzer Athletik-Sport-Klub (commonly known as LASK Linz) and Besiktas of Turkey as a huge fixture.
Last month, LASK Linz dispatched off Norwegian side Lillestrom on a 6-1 aggregate score line in the Second Round Qualification to set up the Thursday ( August 9) clash against Besiktas and Otubanjo reckons the fixture away at the Vodafone Park in Istanbul will not be for the faint-hearted.
“We have a league game on Sunday (today) against St. Polten and it would be nice for us to win that game before departing to Istanbul for the Europa League match against Besiktas,” stated 25-year-old Otubanjo, a U-17 FIFA World Cup silver medal winner with Nigeria in 2019. “So far so good for us in the Europa League; we defeated Lillestrom last month and I featured for LASK. I’m hopeful of a good outing when we travel to Besiktas on Thursday; it’s good we are playing away first while we are going to host the second leg.”
Otubanjo said LASK Linz is a strong side complete with string of foreign professional including the duo of German Alexander Riemann and Fabian Benko as well as Joao Victor of Brazil and Ghanaian Samuel Tetteh who is on loan from Red Salzburg.
“Presently, I’m the only Nigeria with LASK and I consider it a big moment of my career,” said Otubanjo who notched up an impressive 22 goals at FC Blau-Weiß Linz two seasons ago. “ I’m finding my feet gradually at LASK and I’m looking forward to scoring goals here too.”
Otubanjo is undoubtedly one of the vastly-travelled Nigerian youngsters after playing for a clutch of clubs including Atlético Madrid, FC Red Bull Salzburg amongst others.
