With barely one week to the kickoff of the Russia 2018 World Cup, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ABM Group, Prince Alex Mbata has charged the present crop of Super Eagles players to play the way the Eagles of ’94 did if they must go far in Russia.
Mbata in a chat with NewsReporters.ng said Rohr’s men need to be as aggressive as the boys of Westerhof to survive the tough group Nigeria has been drawn into in Russia.
In Mbata’s words: ” Yes, the present crop of players may be good but what is lacking is that bullish fighting spirit we saw in the Daniel Amokachi’s and Emmanuel Amuneke’s of this world when we made our World Cup debut in USA 94. The aggression, the zeal , ruggedness and determination displayed by the boys of Westerhof is not there today. Check out the goal of Amuneke. The risk he took in going for a diving header. If we must go far in Russia, our boys must approach every game with that kind of never say die spirit.”
Mbata stressed that the Eagles did not perform well in the last Saturday friendly against England insisting that they must step up their game when the chips are down in Russia.
“I just hope the players would rise to the occasion in Russia because Nigerians want to see them do well.”
Eagles are billed to hit Russia on Thursday after Wednesday’s friendly in Austria against Czech Republic.
