Nine women are currently under investigation in Anambra state by the police in that state, to determine who among them, own a new born baby who corpse was found in a compound in the Onitsha area of the state.
The women who were arrested by the police would undergo medical laboratory test to detect the true mother of the dead baby and for prosecution it was learnt.
It was gathered that the baby was dumped in the wee hours by an unidentified nursing mother who allegedly perpetrated the act to avoid being noticed.
Witnesses said nobody could ascertained immediately if the new born was killed and dumped by the mother or whether the baby died naturally before being dumped.
It was learnt that those arrested were mostly spinsters and the test would indicate who owns the dead baby.
The Divisional Police Office, (DPO) of the area Mr. I. Jauro, while confirming the incident said that nine women believed to be nursing mothers were arrested for investigation.
“They will be sent to medical test and I don’t want to suffer the innocent ones and that is why we call for the test. If at the end of the day they are proved to be innocent we continue search for the suspect. Presently the corpse has been deposited in a mortuary”.
